Liuwu Fm
Type Locality and Naming
South Lhasa Block – LhasaCity. The Liuwu Formation was erected by Wang Naiwen et al in 1983. The section for the designation is in Niedang west of Lhasa, Xizang.
Lithology and Thickness
The Liuwu Formation is represented by a set of limestone with siliceous lumps and volcanic rocks. Lower part is built up by gray medium and thick-bedded and massive limestone with andesite and limestone with siliceous lumps. Upper part gray medium and thin-bedded limestone interbedded with gray brown medium and thin-bedded sandstone. It is 500 m thick. It is persistent and has been metamorphosed to a varying degree due to the influence of granite bodies.
Relationships and Distribution
Lower contact
Its base consisting of moderately thick-bedded limestone is interbedded with sandstone and shale of the underlying Niedong Fm and shows a conformable contact with the latter.
Upper contact
Conformable to the tuff-breccia-volcanics at base of the Yeba Fm.
Regional extent
The present formation occurs in Niedang of Lhasa and Liuwu south of the Lhasa River.

Fossils
In the Niedang area, it bears Aptian-Albian foraminifera Orbitolina sp., O. texana; bivalves Megalodon sp.; Charophytes Dasycladacea indet., etc.
